ITINERARY [DETAILED]

DAY 1
North Velebit National Park

The transfer will meet you at the Zagreb airport and take you to the Zavižan mountain hut. I (your guide) will meet you at the hut. On your way, stop at one of the supermarkets for food supplies, as the hut does not offer food.

The hut has a kitchen; you can cook simple things or bring sandwiches. After lunch and rest, you’ll hike up to some surrounding peaks and enjoy fantastic views.

Today is a warm-up day and preparation for the rest of the trip. Depending on the arrival time, you will hike to one of the Zavižan area peaks (Veliki Zavižan 1676 m, Balinovac 1601 m, Zavižanska Kosa 1620 m, or Vučjak 1644 m).

The scenic vistas from this group of peaks are impressive, especially at sundown. I will present a hiking plan for the following days in the evening. Dinner, overnight.

Remember, you have to organise lunch and dinner on your own because the hut does not offer food. Make sure you take food for breakfast the following day as well. Accommodation, guide and transfers are included.

DAY 2
Premužić trail

After breakfast, we’ll hit the first stage of the trail, the popular Premužić trail built in the 1930s using the drystone technique. The path is 57 km long, and today we’ll hike its first third. Premužić trail meanders through the scenery of north Velebit and avoids big climbs and descents. Today’s route starts at Zavižan hut and ends at mountain hut Alan. It is 16 km long.

Accommodation, a guide and dinner are included.

Duration: 6-7 hrs
Length: 16 km
Lowest point: 1340 m
Highest point: 1634 m
Difference: 294 m

DAY 3
Premužić Trail

The second part of the trail leads from Alan mountain hut to the mountain refuge Skorpovac. It is 20 km long, takes around 7 hours to complete and is categorised as a mid-difficult stage.

The trail will take us along the maritime slope at equal elevation, interchanging forests and meadows. Once we reach Skorpovac, the hut’s custodian will give us a ride to the mountain hut “Kugina kuća”, a forest ranger’s cabin in central Velebit.

The following day after breakfast, the custodian of Kugina kuća will drive us back to the Skorpovac refuge, where we will continue the hike.

Breakfast, guide, transfer, dinner and accommodation are included.

Duration: 7-8 hrs
Length: 20 km
Elevation gain: 424 m
Elevation loss: 774 m
Lowest point: 957 m
Highest point: 1397 m

DAY 4
Premužić trail

Breakfast and then a 15-minute ride by SUV back to the Skorpovac shelter. The final section of the Premužić trail is 15 km long, and it is a moderately challenging route; it takes an average of 4h00 to complete. Arrive at Baške Oštarije, dinner and overnight stay at the hostel “Oštarije”. Tonight you have access to a proper bathroom and hot water.

Breakfast, guide, transfer, dinner and accommodation are included.

Duration: 7-8 hrs
Length: 20 km
Elevation gain: 801 m
Elevation loss: 830 m
Lowest point: 728 m
Highest point: 1317 m

DAY 5
Paklenica National Park

After three stages of quite a tempo, it’s time to slow down and prepare for the remaining part of the trip. After breakfast, a driver will take us to Starigrad for grocery shopping. After shopping and weather permitting, you can take some time to relax at the beach. The fourth stage of the trip is still ahead of us.

Today we have light action, just 6 km long. After a few hours of gradual uphill walking, we will reach the Paklenica mountain lodge, our destination for tonight. Spend the rest of the day relaxing. The surrounding rivers and natural pools are usually full of water, and you can immerse yourself in and bathe.

Breakfast, guide, transfer, dinner and accommodation are included.

Duration: 2-3 hrs
Length: 6 km
Elevation gain: 480 m
Elevation loss: 0 m

DAY 6
The lonesome peak

Breakfast. The sixth leg of the hike is ahead of you, and it’s a circular trek starting and ending at the mountain lodge Paklenica. The first part of the route goes through the forests of mostly beech wood, and the trail is moderately uphill but not strenuous.

The second part is steeper and goes up and down several times, but the reward is well worth it.

At its 1265m altitude, Veliki Golić Peak opens the view toward the sea and overlooks the Paklenica National Park. From the summit, you will head back towards the mountain lodge Paklenica for dinner and overnight.

Breakfast, guide, dinner and accommodation are included.

Duration: 5-6 hrs
Length: 12 km
Ascent total: 1004 m
Descent total: 830 m
Max Elevation: 1265 m
Min Elevation: 480 m

DAY 7
Departure

Breakfast, and head towards Starigrad on the coast. The private car will wait for you if you want to dip in the sea. A ride from Starigrad to Zagreb airport. If you want another destination, we have to make arrangements in advance.

After several days of hiking, clients sometimes want to spend another seven days in a villa with a pool and relax, making a two-week vacation combining the best of both worlds: an active holiday with a stay in a villa, reading and relaxing.

Let me know if you want to expand your itinerary, and I’ll prepare an offer.

I hope this hiking trip will give you much to remember and encourage you to explore other parts of Croatia.

Breakfast, a guide, and a transfer to Zagreb airport are included.

Duration: 2 hrs
Length: 6 km
Ascent total: 0 m
Descent total: 480 m
Max Elevation: 480 m
Min Elevation: 0 m

WHY BOOK WITH BIG FAT BOUNDLESS?

Years of exploring Croatian landscapes have resulted in the Big Fat Boundless agency.

Big Fat Boundless agency has no “we” – there’s only me, one person who handles it all.

I, the guide, plan the routes and itineraries, and I choose the best trails. Each trail, a day trip or a multi-day itinerary that I market, I covered by myself and did the exploration. I have travelled all these routes, alone or with a company, and I am well acquainted with everything I do here.

I take good care of you during the trip and know fine taverns, unspoilt gems, top trails and beaches. I will know what to do in case of unexpected events.

I avoid crowds; I do off-season – pleasant temperatures, fewer crowds. I work primarily in small groups of up to eight people or less.

I am a trained, reliable and dedicated mountain guide. I want you to get 100% value for your money with each tour booked.

WHICH CROATIAN AIRPORT DO I PICK?

Zagreb, Rijeka or Zadar.

DO I NEED A TRAVEL INSURANCE?

Yes you do. You can always travel without one, but I strongly recommend that you come with a travel insurance that covers a minimum medical, evacuation, and repatriation coverage, covering all applicable dates of your travel with Big Fat Boundless.

This insurance must cover personal injury and emergency medical expenses. You are strongly recommended to extend your coverage to include cancellation, curtailment, and all other expenses that may arise as a result of loss, damage, injury, delay, or inconvenience while traveling.

Most chances are you won’t need it, but in case you do, well, just make sure you have it!

BOOKING PROCESS

Please send me an inquiry. I will answer you shortly and agree with you on the details; the date, time and place of departure, do you have any special (dietary, medical) requirements, etc.

After we set the details, you can pay via IBAN, or I can send you a link for secure payment by card. If the booking is made 60 days or less before departure, full payment is due at the time of booking.

Considering that the clients must provide their own food for the first evening and the second day of the trip (see the itinerary and general tour description), I am free to arrange a grocery list with the clients and take care of it for an additional surcharge of 30 EUR per person.

I can arrange locally produced cheeses, olive oil, homemade bread, locally produced salami and general foodstuffs used during the trip.

In addition, the surcharge includes eco-friendly food containers for placing food and distributing it according to the number of people so that each carries a portion of the food.
