Universal trail difficulty chart is challenging to establish. Below is something that can help you estimate whether the given tour is for you.
EASY WALKING
- Daily Hours: Up to 4
- Daily Distance: 3 – 9 km (in miles 1.85 – 5.6 mi.)
- Walking Surfaces: Gentle with some uneven terrain
- Daily Elevation: approx. 250 m (820 feet)
EASY-TO-MODERATE WALKING
- Daily Hours: Up to 5
- Daily Distance: 6 – 12 km (in miles 3.7 – 7.5 mi.)
- Walking Surfaces: Gentle to rolling with some uneven terrain
- Daily Elevation: approx. 400 m (1312 feet)
- Personal Fitness: Cardio exercise 2-3 times weekly, active lifestyle
MODERATE WALKING
- Daily Hours: Up to 6
- Daily Distance: 6 – 16 km (in miles 3.7 – 10 mi.)
- Walking Surfaces: Hilly with some steep terrain. Uneven terrain all the way
- Daily Elevation: approx. 700 m (2300 feet)
- Personal Fitness: Cardio exercise 3-4 times weekly, active lifestyle
MODERATE-TO-CHALLENGING WALKING
- Daily Hours: Up to 7
- Daily Distance: 6 – 16 km (in miles 3.7 – 10 mi.)
- Walking Surfaces: Hilly to mountainous with some steep/uneven terrain
- Daily Elevation: approx. 900 m (3000 feet)
- Personal Fitness: Excellent physical condition, cardio exercise 4-5 times weekly
CHALLENGING WALKING
- Daily Hours: Up to 9
- Daily Distance: 16 – 30 km (in miles 10 – 18.6 mi.)
- Walking Surfaces: Rugged, uneven, mountainous terrain with some sustained ascents and descents
- Daily Elevation: approx. 1200 m (4000 feet)
- Personal Fitness: Excellent physical condition, vigorous cardio exercise 4-5 times weekly, no ortho/cardio problems
